This is my remix of “Last Call,” a piece composed by Sam Minaie for the experimental jazz project Axis Trio. The original track was performed and recorded by Axis Trio (with my brother Amino Belyamani on piano) for their brilliant debut album "The Hand." Even if I had no familial ties to Axis Trio, I would still highly recommend buying the whole album on iTunes. But if you’re just curious to hear the original track this remix is based on, you can buy it for a buck on iTunes. Also, watch out for Axis Trio’s upcoming 2nd album, which (in addition to including another remix I made for them) sounds a lot more rocking than their first album, which takes their overall delicious sound up to the eleventh notch.

This is officerfishdumplings’ first attempt at performing a live “DJ” set that people can “dance” to...with their bodies, that is, not just with their minds...But don’t get too excited, I’m not making house music (yet...). It’s still pretty kablamo-ridonculous. But I have proof that people can and WILL dance to it, as they did at this secret affair on Saturday night in San Francisco called “DanceClub”. Yeah, it’s like Fight Club, except replace “Fight” with “Dance” and remove the space.

Blue is an experimental collaboration between artists Shawn Feeney and officerfishdumplings. To create the work they decided three elements: a duration of 30 minutes, a rhythmic relationship of 3:2 (Feeney’s piece is at 135bpm and officerfishdumplings’s is at 90bpm) and a theme (the color blue). Also, an image was generated by an mp3 player’s visual plug-in to function as a graphic score.
After setting these guidelines they worked independently, Feeney in New Zealand and officerfishdumplings in the USA.
